Contrapuntal Motions - Insanguine's Partimento Rules Book P. 4

There are three motions: direct, oblique, and contrary.

Direct motion is when the two hands rise or fall together, and this should be avoided so as not to make two [parallel] 5ths or 8ves, because these are forbidden.

Oblique motion is when one hand holds its position while the other one moves.

Contrary motion is when one hand ascends and the other descends, as you will see in the examples.
