The Partimento Blog
Music consists in concords & discords.
The concords that are is a 3d , 5th, 6th & 8th.
Perfect cords is a 5th & 8th.
Imperfect is a 3d & 6th.
Discords are the 2th, 4th, 7th & 9th.
The 9th is the same as the 2d only it is otherways accompanied.
To all counterpoint notes being a semibreis, minim or chrochet (unless a 6th) you must play wth your right hand an 8th, 5th & 3d as it shall happen most convenient to your hand.
Not playing two 8ths or 5ths ascending or decending together.
It is a general rule when your bass ascends to avoid playing 5ths & 8ths in counterpoint your treble must decend towards your bass.
But you may play as many 3d s or sixes ascending or decending11 together as you please they being imperfect cords.
